Sarah & Ruby Design Studio is a San Francisco Bay Area company run by—you guessed it— Sarah (Schwartz) and Ruby (Geisler). We are passionate about home interiors and how color and pattern can really give life and character to a room. We love to design patterns for fabrics, wallpaper, tile, and rugs.

Our designs reflect our fondness for hand-rendered design while striking a balance between organic and sophisticated. Much of our inspiration comes from our natural surroundings, but we’re also into centuries-old printing techniques. We find a lot of joy in the design process itself, experimenting with color and motif in ways that take us in new directions. Almost all of our designs start off by hand drawing or painting, be it pen on paper or an iPad doodle. Regardless of the medium, the resulting artwork celebrates the unmistakeable and unique marks of our all-too-human hands. These sketches are explored and refined in Illustrator or Photoshop, and then made repeat-ready. Our color choices tend toward bold, energized, and joyful colors, and we love to see our patterns and colorways mixed and matched together in unexpected combinations.

We founded Sarah & Ruby Design Studio in 2012 as a custom design house, creating special designs for one-time interior projects. Since then, we have expanded, and in 2015, we are excited to be launching our first wallpaper line, entirely printed by hand, embracing our appreciation of artisan processes. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, attention to detail, and creative teamwork. We look forward to new opportunities and building new relationships, and we are thrilled to be part of this new community.
